Gallery: World’s Highest Peak Is Now Just a Little Taller

After years of debate, China and Nepal have finally agreed on the height of Mount Everest. The world’s highest mountain, known in China as Mount Qomolangma and which straddles the countries’ common border, has been increased by 4.43 meters to 8,848.86 meters, after they “reached consensus” last year, China’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday. The new height supersedes a 2005 survey by China of 8,844.43 meters
