China’s first virtual power plant (VPP) supplying purely green electricity has commenced formal operations, China General Nuclear Power Corp. (CGN), the project’s operator, announced Friday.

The power plant, located in an industrial park in eastern China’s Ningbo, Zhejiang province, is equipped with distributed photovoltaic systems, an energy storage system and charging piles, according to the announcement. By integrating these systems and equipment, the VPP can meet 80% of the park’s daily electricity needs, CGN said.
